About An Oak Tree

When I say sleep, you’re free again.

In celebration of its 20th anniversary, the Olivier Award-winning producers of Fleabag and Baby Reindeer present Tim Crouch’s groundbreaking An Oak Tree, one of the most influential new plays of our time.

A father loses his daughter in a car accident. The driver of the car that killed her is a stage hypnotist. The two men meet for the first time when the father volunteers for the hypnotist’s act. What follows is a live theatrical experience like no other - a bold and absurdly comic story of loss, suggestion and the power of the mind.

At each performance, Tim Crouch will be joined by a different guest artist, who will have neither seen nor read a single word of the play - until they're in it. Guest artists will be revealed to audiences live on the night. The Young Vic line-up includes Adjoa Andoh (Bridgerton), Jessie Buckley (Cabaret), Arthur Darvill (Doctor Who), Ṣọpẹ́ Dìrísù (Gangs of London), Mark Gatiss (Sherlock), Julie Hesmondhalgh (Punch), Alex Lawther (The End of the F*ing World), Michelle Terry (Tribes), Luke Thompson (Bridgerton), Russell Tovey (Being Human) and Indira Varma (Game of Thrones), with more exciting guest artists still to be announced.

Since 2005, Tim has performed the play globally sharing the stage with performers including Frances McDormand, Geoffrey Rush, Sharon D Clarke, Alanis Morrisette, Sophie Okonedo, Peter Dinklage and Laurie Anderson.
